Materials and manufacturing techniques
Sockets are made from lightweight rigid composite resin or heat-adjustable thermoplastic. Techniques include traditional plaster casting, 3D scanning and flexible silicone inner sockets with a rigid frame. Cure Care uses CAD/CAM and 3D printing for precise adjustments.
Transtibial and transfemoral sockets
A transtibial socket surrounds the residual tibia while leaving the knee free. A transfemoral ischial socket bears on the pelvis and perineal area to distribute weight. Each geometry is designed for the patient's anatomy and activity level.
Common problems and solutions
Common problems include distal residual-limb pain, pistoning, pressure sores and excessive sweating. Cure Care provides follow-up visits, socket modifications and specialized liners to address these complications.
Service life and renewal
An adult socket lasts about 2 to 3 years on average and less for a growing child. CNAM provides a renewal schedule. Cure Care follows patients over time and advises when replacement is needed.
